The Veterans’ Foundation is proud to announce that the Invictus Games Foundation is amongst the latest recipients of a grant to further the support of wounded, injured and sick (WIS) armed forces personnel, serving or veteran.
The Invictus Games Foundation use the power of sport to inspire recovery, support rehabilitation and generate a wider understanding and respect for members of the WIS community. As part of this, the Foundation oversees the delivery of the Invictus Games.
Taken from the Latin word Invictus meaning “unconquered,” the competitors involved in the Games as part of their recovery have helped to inspire wider society with their displays of Invictus Spirit.
“I lost my identity and my ability. Training for the Invictus Games picked me up. It’s proved to me that I am still worth something and I have still got drive and determination,” said one UK Competitor.
The grant from the Veterans’ Foundation will help the Invictus Games Foundation to build a virtual community for WIS service personnel to have a safe and secure space to support one another. It will also help them to take up further opportunities, outside of Games time, which support their personal recovery and rehabilitation journey.
The next Invictus Games will be hosted by The Hague on 9th-16th of May 2020. These Games will bring together over 500 competitors from 19 nations to compete in 10 sports.
