Ruskin Mill Land Trust

Why does Veterans' Foundation help Ruskin Mill Land Trust?

Ruskin Mill Land Trust is a charity that helps young people with complex needs access education. One specific project the charity helps to run is The Fold which is a centre for British Armed Forces families. Located within a farm, surrounded by countryside, The Fold allows members of the armed forces to take their family to a quiet part of the world to get away from the pressures of life in the British Armed Forces.

Spending time at The Fold gives armed forces personnel and their family the opportunity to learn new skills and share unique experiences in a relaxed environment. The Fold has a therapeutic atmosphere where caring for animals and growing produce is encouraged. The Fold has found that their establishment gives armed forces personnel a great opportunity to bond, and rebuild relationships. Life in the armed forces is tough on families, especially deployment to warzones for long periods.

Located near Catterick Garrison, The Fold aims to enhance the social, emotional and practical skills of British military families. Encouraging family bonding has been found to be a key factor in helping servicemen and women come to terms with trauma, injury or PTSD that have been picked up through deployment.
