VF Funds Film Fun for Forces Families

January 04 2022

Military Families of the 1st Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment will have free access to their local silver screen thanks to a Veterans’ Foundation grant.

The £400 award will fund a pre-paid card that will allow Forces families to spend quality time together at a nearby cinema after a tough 18 months.

The continuing COVID-19 pandemic has meant that many of the regiment’s personnel were unable to have days out with their loved ones, so this grant will help them take further steps back to normality.

“Following a really difficult time during lockdown we wanted to find something that families could attend together and safely,” said Captain John Simpson-Worboys, the unit’s welfare officer.

“Thanks to the amazing support of the Veterans’ Foundation we were able to purchase a pre-paid cinema pass,” he added.

“So far over 40 families have benefitted from the kind generosity of the Veterans’ Foundation.”

The Vulagirua family were one of those families to use the pass and were thankful for the opportunity: “Thank you to the Veterans Foundation for the kind grant. My children got to watch in the cinema for the first time and they enjoyed every moment of it.”

“It was a treat after one week of rain (school break) and we got to spend more money on popcorn and juice, we loved it!”
