How does Hire a Hero help Veterans?
Hire a Hero supports Service Leavers and Veterans to gain meaningful civilian employment after their service. The charity advertises vacancies on a job board that could be of interest to those leaving the military, along with providing one-to-one career coaching that looks at CV writing, interview techniques and much more. The Hire a Hero team are also able to signpost Service Leavers and Veterans who may need additional support with housing, health and further training. The charity maintains healthy links with other charities and organisations who can offer support when needed.
Due to Covid-19, Hire a Hero are currently holding virtual events and looking to raise funds through social media campaigns. Hannah from Hire a Hero explains the impact Covid-19 has had on the charity: “Due to the pandemic our regular fundraising events have been cancelled, this has had a huge impact on the charity however our supporters have been outstanding with their fundraising efforts for the charity. Unfortunately, we have not been able to attend our usual Employment and Careers Fairs where we meet face to face with Service Leavers and Veterans to offer the services we provide, we have however taken part in the Virtual Careers Events, so we have still been able to help and support the event through these difficult times.”
One Veteran who has been helped by Hire a Hero explained the significance the charity has in his life: “The Hire a Hero programme and service was amazing. I struggled to adapt to civilian life once I left the Army. It took me a couple of years to find myself and the role that I really wanted. I had a number of different jobs in varied industries as I did not know where my skill set was best suited. My key message is keep digging and being proactive because trust me it will pay off. Big thanks to Hannah at Hire a Hero who supported me and guided me through the process.”
