Grant Updates

Housing Help for Scottish Veterans

October 27 2021

Housing Options Scotland will find a record number of veterans ‘the Right Home in the Right Place’ courtesy of two Veterans’ Foundation grants.

The two awards, totalling £40,000, will be dedicated to staff costs within the ‘Military Matters’ project, covering a 127.4% increase in military clients wanting to access housing advice and information.

One grant will allow Housing Options Scotland to employ a new broker, charged with providing dedicated support to disabled veterans and their families, while the second will assist the charity to recruit more ‘veteran volunteers’ offering peer support to clients.

“Without funding to resource the brokerage service and support our Veteran Volunteer team, we would not be able to continue the important work we do supporting members of the Armed Forces community to find the Right Home in the Right Place,” said Moira Bayne, CEO of Housing Options Scotland.

Although Housing Options Scotland doesn’t just work with ex-service personnel, these awards will greatly enhance the service provided to veterans, including more engagement with staff and aftercare with clients once a housing solution has been identified.

“We are very grateful to the Veterans Foundation for their support, and it is humbling to have our work recognised by trustees,” added Moira.

“Thank you to the Veterans Foundation for giving us this opportunity to further support our veteran clients.”
