How does Icarus help Veterans?

Icarus provides immediate care, assessment and rehabilitation for our Armed Forces and veterans with the support also extending to all uniformed services and their families.

The charity - based in Scotland - delivers a range of conventional and complementary therapies for those with the mental scars of service such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Icarus tailors treatment to the individual and provides detox and rehab through online communication portals such as Zoom as well as a facility in Greenock.

How has Veterans’ Foundation helped Icarus?

The Veterans’ Foundation grant has enabled Icarus to train volunteer therapists - six to date - enabling them to deliver trauma treatment via video call.

Two more therapists have been recruited taking the team to 14 and so far in 2020 (Aug), 807 people have been assisted - double that of 2019. 

A veteran known as JP said: “Icarus has saved my life, I feel free from all the problems I used to have.”

Patrons of Icarus include Sir Ranulph Fiennes and Major General Peter Currie CB CBE.

Co-founder Simon Maryan added: “The Veterans’ Foundation grant has allowed the charity to sustain its rapid growth and increasing demand for services. Our team has quadrupled this year and we’ve treated almost double the number of individuals compared to 2019. We could not have done this without VF support.”
