VF Grant Funds Outdoor Excitement for Veterans

November 24 2021

75 veterans are set to enjoy thrills in the Lake District thanks to Veterans’ Foundation funding.

The £30,000 award will enable Positive Adventure to deliver three trips for veterans, filled with exciting activities such as Abseiling, Kayaking, Rafting and Canyoning.

Positive Adventure provides adventure retreats and hikes to serving members and veterans of the UK’s uniformed services, designed to improve the fitness, diet, lifestyle and confidence of all who participate.

"This grant will provide the opportunity for Positive Adventure to continue to support the veteran community through the provision of our Adventure Retreats,” said Dan Searson, who runs Positive Adventure.

“Recent events have shown the difference they make to our veterans in improving their physical and mental well-being and we currently have a 'waiting list' of participants,” added Dan.

“Grants are therefore vital for us to provide our serve and make a difference to so many veterans.”

The COVID lockdowns over the past two years have been very difficult for many veterans and their families, with isolation and poor mental wellbeing contributing to relationships being strained and unhealthy lifestyles rising.

Therefore, alongside the physical activities, the two-day retreats also include informative mindfulness workshops that help veterans to work on their mental health too, reducing stress and tension.

"All at Positive Adventure are extremely grateful to the Veterans’ Foundation and their trustees for the grant and their support to our organisation,” said Dan.

“The funding will make a real difference to the lives of so many veterans, something which wouldn't be possible if we had not received the grant.”

“Thank you to the Veteran's Foundation and all those that play the Veterans’ Lottery.”
