Grant Updates

New Premises for Dorset Veterans' Hub

October 27 2021

A new venue will provide vital support to a record number of veterans in Dorset thanks to a Veterans’ Foundation grant.

The £25,000 award helps to secure a large shop front directly across from The Veterans Hub Weymouth & Portland’s current site, which will serve as office space, a permanent therapy room and a shop managed by the veterans themselves.

Due to an unprecedented increase in demand, the organisation required additional space so that they and their partners could continue to provide the best possible service for those who need it.

The Defence Medical Welfare Services, Royal British Legion, BLESMA, Dorset First Point (housing & welfare), MAD with Dogs and SSAFA will all benefit from the new property and will ensure that the services provided match the needs of those looking for support.

“Our project is completely reliant on grants and donations and the grant we have been awarded from The Veterans Foundation will allow us to expand our project in a huge way, making a difference in so many lives,” said Andy Price, Director of The Veterans Hub Weymouth & Portland.

From a community café run by veterans to wheelchair-accessible allotments and a sensory/reflection garden, the organisation allows ex-service personnel to come together for peer support and to gain access to more specialised support through its partners.

“We are so very grateful to The Veterans’ Foundation for understanding and believing in our ethos and also to everyone who takes part in The Veterans’ Lottery, you have ALL helped make a difference,” Andy added.
