We love the stories from our Veterans' Lottery winners, telling us about their holiday and celebration plans for their mammoth £75,000 win, but this month’s is particularly heartwarming as it will help to give a young family a much-needed financial boost after a difficult end to the year.
January’s rollover jackpot winner, Sarah Mullenger, 35, from Maldon in Essex, had been made redundant in November just before her daughter, Robyn’s, fourth birthday.
And while she knew that losing her job was going to make the family’s festive season a worrying prospect, she was determined to look on the bright side.
“Losing my job meant that I was able to spend Robyn’s birthday with her, but I was very worried about how we were going to make ends meet,” said Sarah, who started a new job just two weeks before winning the Veterans’ Lottery.
“It was a worrying time, so when I got the call that I had won £75,000 I just couldn’t hold back the tears. It’s just incredible and means that we can do a lot of the things we would have struggled to do before.
“I am still trying to compute it, but there are lots of little jobs we can do now that we couldn’t have done before.”
Sarah has earmarked funds from her win to replace her home’s ancient boiler, to sort out a leaky door and other small household jobs that will make their home life more comfortable.
And she says when they have caught up on those little home improvements she hopes to treat her parents to a holiday to say thank you for all the help they have given.
