A former soldier is celebrating after winning £35,000 in this month’s Veteran Lottery!
Mark Radberg landed both the £5,000 first prize and the £30,000 rollover jackpot in the May draw.
The 68-year-old, who served with the Israeli Army as a combat officer during the 1970s, comes from a military family and described his moment of success as ‘unbelievable.’
“This is fantastic,” said Mark. “I joined up to play the Veterans’ Lottery in September 2018 and to be honest, I’d forgotten I was still playing! What a lovely surprise.”
As well as serving himself, Mark’s father and uncles fought in World War Two. His father was a code breaker recognised for distinguished service, while his uncles also served – one losing his life at Dunkirk.
“Given my strong military background, I have the utmost respect for anyone who serves,” added Mark, who has a base in London but spends much of his time living in Spain.
“I have defended my home and family and I have incredible admiration for the British Army, who can be sent out to defend other people and their freedom.
“So many people around the world are able to do what they do because of the British Army. They deserve respect and the fact the Veterans’ Foundation do so much to support our ex-servicemen and women is why I joined the Veterans’ Lottery.”
Mark has already given part of his winnings to his daughters but plans to keep the rest for a ‘rainy day.’
The £2,000 second prize was won by Jacqueline Shelton, who comes from the Isle of Wight, while a further 40 lucky players each received £120 each.
