Pantomime is perhaps the most iconically British Christmas tradition.
Oh no it’s not.
Okay, well maybe not THE most iconic, but certainly up near the top, which is why we love to support the British Forces Foundation’s Panto Bus, to give armed forces families the chance to celebrate the season in true British style, wherever they may be.
We awarded £15,000 again this year to bring panto fun and frolics to children and their families stationed around the UK, as well as those deployed at four British bases in Cyprus.
The funds help pay the costs of staging some 60 performances of three well-known pantos by a group of professional actors. This year they are putting on Rapunzel, Jack and the Beanstalk and Aladdin.
This week the 10,000-strong British community in Cyprus will have the chance to boo and hiss during performances of Aladdin, including a tongue-in-cheek adult-only version.
“We are thrilled to receive the funding that allows us to bring pantos to our armed forces colleagues and their families,” said BFF’s Chief Operations Officer, Mark Seymour.
“Everyone has tremendous fun and it is wonderful to see the look of delight on the faces of the children, who are truly blown away by the experience. We’re proud to bring the panto that brings a little piece of home to so many, who give so much to keep us safe.”
