The Veterans' Foundation has awarded a two-year grant to a scheme which offers vital support for armed forces children and their families.
Somerset Activity and Sports Partnership (SASP) is dedicated to increasing the health and happiness of residents through physical activity and sport and the Veterans' Foundation grant is to support its work with armed forces children and their families across Somerset.
The funding will enable SASP expand the impactful work already being delivered through its Jump Start programme, led by Aaron, Jump Start Mentor, providing targeted support to armed forces children through mentoring, community connection, and tailored wellbeing activities.
Through this project, SASP will offer one-to-one mentoring and weekly group sessions that creates safe, supportive spaces where armed forces children feel listened to, valued, and empowered.
By building trusted relationships, the project can help people overcome barriers to wellbeing, reduce isolation, and strengthen confidence.
A key part of our approach is using sport and physical activity as a positive tool to bring people together, improve mental health, and encourage connection within the community.
Whether it's informal group sessions, walking and talking, or structured activities, we know these experiences can help build resilience and a sense of belonging.
