FALKLANDS WAR🇬🇧

We will remember: Our Falklands' heroes

255 men, all members of our incredible Armed Forces paid the ultimate sacrifice for their country in the Falklands War. They are held forever in our hearts.

On April 2, 1982, Argentine forces invaded and occupied the Falkland Islands. Three days later, on April 5, a UK task force set sail to recapture the Islands and restore freedom for the Islanders.

25,948 UK Armed Forces personnel, alongside around 3,000 civilian crew from the Merchant Navy, Royal Fleet Auxiliary and Chinese civilian crew, formed the Task Force involved in the liberation of the Falkland Islands.

Following several weeks of intense fighting, Argentine forces surrendered on June 14, 1982, a date that has since been known in the Falkland Islands as ‘Liberation Day’ and is a national holiday.

Those that returned to Britain did so to a heroes' welcome. Our fallen, the men who made the ultimate sacrifice, will always be remembered.

We ask you to leave a free tribute below to those who fought and please consider lighting a Candle Of Remembrance - it will burn bright in memory of those who played their part in the liberation of the Falklands but are no longer with us.

Your candle donation will fund projects for veterans in need today.

Major General David Shaw, CEO/founder of the Veterans' Foundation:

‘It’s hard to believe that this year we mark the 40th anniversary of the Falkland’s War.

'Here on the new British Armed Forces Memorial Wall, I want to pay tribute to the incredible bravery and dedication of all those who served during the Falkland’s War.

‘We sadly lost 255 men in the short period of conflict, and we have to make sure that each is remembered as a unique individual who valued their life but was prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice.

‘We are reminded at this time of the incredible contribution of Veterans past and present to the life and rich history of our country.

‘It is our mission to honour and remember each of these individuals on the Armed Forces Memorial Wall.’

The reporting of this conflict brought war into people's houses, for that reason it remains very clear in our minds. I remember the scenes of HMS Sheffield and the Sir Galahad - awful loss. And now in Ukraine we see more madness - when will the aggressors ever learn. We must always fight for liberty, we cannot let evil triumph. Rest in peace all those who lost their lives in the Falklands and in all wars.
