Hartlepool United Community Sports Foundation

Why does the Veterans' Foundation support Hartlepool United Community Sports Foundation?

Hartlepool United Community Sports Foundation works closely with veterans in the local area to ensure that they are not isolated. HUCSF run activity sessions that promote exercise and communication with other veterans and staff. The Veterans’ Hub, as the project has been named, also offers veterans career advice and avenues for retraining into new careers.

Hartlepool United became the first UK football club to win the Bronze Award from the Armed Forces Covenant. This award is a recognition that the club is committed to promoting the values of the British Armed Forces and are a forces-friendly organisation. Retired members of the British Armed Forces know that they will be looked upon favourably if they apply for work with Hartlepool United.

Hartlepool United Community Sports Foundation also runs a Monday drop-in service which gives veterans a reason to get out and reduce their social isolation. One veteran who attends these sessions explained its value: “Veterans Hub has turned into a warm atmosphere of friends and acquaintances, with varied activities.” Another service offered by HUCSF is a selection of sporting courses to help veterans get fit and pursue sports qualifications. The project has brought together a large number of veterans, whom ordinarily would not have met. The regular meets, activities and social opportunities mean that there are less isolated veterans within the community and Hartlepool as a whole. Some of the activities allow for veterans' families and widows to get involved which helps their physical and mental well-being.
