Who won the February 2021 Veterans’ Lottery top prize?
A veteran who served for 15 years in the Royal Navy is celebrating after becoming the latest winner in the Veterans’ Lottery.
Keith Thompson, who lives in Manchester, landed the £5,000 top prize in the February draw – and is already planning on spending his winnings on a winter holiday.
The 56-year-old has been playing the Veterans’ Lottery for nearly three years and saw it as a cause very close to his heart.
“I served for 15 years in the Royal Navy and my son was in the Royal Engineers for 12 years,” said Keith. “Both of us lost friends in service so it was something we felt was extremely worthwhile.
“I remember seeing an advert for the lottery come up on Facebook and I didn’t hesitate.
“£10 a month is such a small amount, it’s three pints of beer, or one packet of cigarettes if you smoke.
“The good it does for those who gave so much, everything in some cases, makes it so worthwhile.”
Keith was preparing for a Zoom-based birthday party for his partner when he got the call to tell him he’d scooped the £5,000 top prize.
“We already had the champagne on ice, so it gave us another reason to celebrate!” he added.
He plans to spend his winnings on a new boiler and a winter holiday to Gambia.
Another veteran – former wren Liz Griffiths, from Holyhead – picked up £2,000 as second prize winner, while a further 40 lucky players landed £120 each.
