Matters of Interest

A word from our CEO

September 23 2025

Earlier this month, I had the joy of representing the Veterans’ Foundation at BGC Charity Day 2025 in London, alongside Sarah Elliott, our Head of Fundraising and Partnerships, and our ambassador, Mark Ormrod.

BGC Charity Day was sadly created in memory of the 658 BGC colleagues and 61 Eurobrokers employees who lost their lives in the 9/11 attacks.

On this day each year, 100% of their revenue is donated to charity. In the two decades since it began, BGC Charity Day has kindly raised more than $220 million worldwide.

This year, BGC Charity Day set an amazing new record and raised over $14 million for good causes in the UK and across the globe.

Mark, a Royal Marine veteran and the UK’s first triple amputee from the conflict in Afghanistan, knows first-hand the value of veterans’ charities.

He stepped on to the trading floor, and did trades at $200 and $50 million.

Not bad for a first day on the job! We’re sure that after BGC Charity Day, Mark can proudly add “trader for a day” to his many talents, which already include entrepreneur, motivational speaker, author, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu purple belt.

Mark’s life is such a powerful reminder of the resilience and inspiration of our Armed Forces community, and the difference that veterans’ charities can make.

For the Veterans’ Foundation, being part of BGC Charity Day means we can continue to fund projects that change lives. In less than a decade, we have awarded more than £30 million in grants to over 500 charities.

These grants provide mental health care, emergency housing, job training, helplines, therapy dogs and community groups that bring veterans and their families out of isolation.

A single grant can mean a safe bed for a homeless veteran, a family making it through winter, or a call answered in the middle of the night.

On behalf of everyone at the Veterans’ Foundation, I want to thank the BGC Group and all who took part for helping us keep our promise to our Armed Forces community: that they will never be forgotten, and they will always be supported.

Thank you for all your continued support.
