The Veterans’ Foundation has teamed with the Manchester Half Marathon to offer free places to runners who want to help veterans’ charities that support ex-servicemen and women suffering with PTSD and other mental health issues, including suicide.
There are 25 places available to runners who will participate in the Veterans' Foundation's name and raise a minimum of £300.
The event takes place at Old Trafford in Manchester on Sunday, 13th October.
The Veterans’ Foundation is one of the country’s leading military charities, set up in 2016 to raise funds to help charities provide vital support to the armed forces’ community.
Since 2016 the Foundation has donated more than £23 million and awarded 1,100 grants to more than 450 small and medium-sized charities and charitable organisations that deliver life-changing projects across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Funds go to charities that assist with a range of needs, including mental health, physical therapy and rehabilitation, homelessness and education and training.
“More and more ex-servicemen and women are coming forward for help with mental health issues, some with thoughts of suicide, so we want to support charities that help with those issues,” said Fundraising Officer, Charity Rosario.
“We are hoping that there may be some keen runners out there who will run on our behalf and show our armed forces heroes how much we appreciate their service and sacrifice.”
It is the first time the charity has teamed with the Manchester Half Marathon, though it supports a number of charities based in the Greater Manchester area, including Trafford Veterans CIC, Broughton House Veteran Care Village, Veterans into Logistics, Veterans Tribe CIC, Mode Rehabilitation and Stockport County Community Trust.
The Veterans’ Foundation administers the Veterans’ Lottery. Tickets are £10 per month with a jackpot of £75,000. It also maintains a Memorial Wall so friends and family can honour their heroes.
