Army Veteran wins £25,000 Jackpot in National Veterans' Lottery

December 14 2020

An army veteran is celebrating this week after landing the £25,000 jackpot in the latest Veterans’ Lottery draw!

Robert Wilde – who served for four years in the Royal Artillery – scooped the £5,000 top prize and the £20,000 rollover pot to ensure his Christmas celebrations began early.

The 64-year-old, from Glossop, Derbyshire, joined the Veterans’ Lottery in July 2017 and plans to spend his winnings on a new car.

“I can’t believe this,” said Robert. “I can’t normally win an argument!

“I first heard about the lottery on Facebook and my first thoughts were: ‘it’s only £10-a-month and veterans in need deserve our support.”

Robert – who followed in his father’s footsteps by serving – joined up as a 17-year-old and was posted to Germany and Northern Ireland during a four-year stint in the Army.

“I very much enjoyed my time in service,” he added, “and I’m still in touch with some of the people I served with.

“Winning the Veterans’ Lottery is just fantastic. I’m looking forward to treating the family this Christmas!”

The second prize of £2,000 was won by Raymond Mckeen from Armagh in Northern Ireland. A further 10 players each collected £100 each.
