The VC Gallery

Why does the Veterans' Foundation support The VC Gallery?

Art and culture – and the restorative benefits both bring to health, wellbeing and the overall quality of life – lie at the core of what the VC Gallery stands for.
Based in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, the charity was the brainchild of founder Barry John MBE. Barry spent 24 years serving in the Army and saw first-hand how difficult the transition can be from military to civilian life.
With his artistic background and his involvement in mental health work, he realised the need in the community for his expertise and experiences.
By running projects and workshops for the community, The VC Gallery aims to engage people of all ages and enhance their personal, social and educational development.
While providing support to veterans is at the heart of what the charity does, its work is not only limited to ex-servicemen and women. It is also open to people with mental or physical disabilities, to the young and the elderly, and to anyone who feels isolated and alone.
Using its own studio and gallery space, people are given the chance to express themselves through art, their work is then displayed – and sold – to the general public.
For those veterans who may decide the creative process is not for them, The VC Gallery also aims to provide a hub to use, but also just a safe and welcoming place to visit and find like-minded people.
